Schedule of Events 2010 April 29th Of Audacious Insects and Cryptic Amphibians: Experiencing the Biodiversity of the Bogs. Talk by environmental artist Brandon Ballengee. 8pm at Teach Lea, Boora June 5th to June 14th The John Nicholas Brown Center for Public Humanities and Culture Heritage Offaly County Council Heritage office and Sculpture in the Parklands will host a residency programme for MA students in Public Humanities from Brown University (USA). Students will be involved with recording oral histories and developing a multi-media programme documenting West Offaly heritage and culture. Programme will be delivered by Dr. Ian Russell and Kevin O’Dwyer. June 17th & 18th Sculpture in the Parklands- Equational Landscape Architecture World in Denmark- Landscape Conference, Copenhagen, Denmark Co-Authors: Dermot Foley/Kevin O’Dwyer. Presenter: Dermot Foley July 19th to July 23rd Insect Festival Education workshop - Brandon Ballengee Environmental artist Brandon Ballengee with present a one- week education programme for 7 to 12 year olds at Teach Lea Community hall and Lough Boora Parklands. Brandon will explore the world of the insect with the participants through field trips, drawing, photography and painting. Educational, informative and fun! July 24th to July 31st Love Motel for Insects - Brandon Ballengee Light installation by environmental artist Brandon Ballengee, which explores the nocturnal life of the insect world. One-day workshops and night walks to the installation will provide an insight into the rich biodiversity of Lough Boora Parklands. July 1st to July 30th Legitimate Bodies Dance Company- Artist in Residence Nick Bryson and Cristina Golette with choreograph a series of dances based on the sculptures in the parklands. The programme will culminate with an evening performance during the Insect Festival on July 31 st. Further information will be available in June. July/August Nigel Rolfe- Artist in Residence Rolfe has been active as a performance artists since the 1970’s. His work has been featured in the Irish Museum of Modern Art. September 6th to September 24th Alfio Bonanno-Artist in Residence Alfio Bonanno is a pioneer of environmental art and a representative of the European development of Land Art or Art in Nature over the past 35 years. Alfio is a site-specific, outdoor installation artist who has been creating large-scale sculptures within selected, natural environments. September 10th to September 24th John Grande – Writer in Residence The author of Balance: Art and Nature (Black Rose Books, 2004), Intertwining: Landscape, Technology, Issues, Artists (Black Rose Book), John Grande’s Art Nature Dialogues: Interviews with Environmental Artists (SUNY Press). John curates a yearly international exhibition of nature sculpture at the royal Botanical Gardens, Canada. Events: - Dates to be Confirmed Black is the Earth Original music composition for Piano Accordion, percussion and string trio by Adele O’Dwyer. Performance during September residency programme. Legitimate Bodies, Black is the Earth, Nigel Rolfe Performance at Birr Theatre, Co. Offaly and University College Dublin. Dates to be confirmed.
